“I’ve always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come. I don’t do things half-heartedly. Because I know if I do, then I can expect half-hearted results.” – Michael Jordan

Hidden Addictions Part 2 – Identify Your Hidden Addictions

October 28th, 2008 by Jack Rugile - 7 Comments - Posted in Personal Growth

Hidden Addiction CartThis post is part 2 of the “Hidden Addiction” series. Be sure to read Hidden Addictions Part 1 – What Is A Hidden Addiction?

In my first post of this series, I talked about what a hidden addiction is. Freeing ourselves from these addictions can bring a great deal of happiness, independence, and power to our lives. Defining a hidden addiction is the first step. The second step is identifying our own hidden addictions.

This sounds easier than it is. You may be able to identify one or two off the top of your head, but to get a full list of all your hidden addictions is quite difficult. That is why they are called “hidden addictions”. Hidden things are hard to find! And in addition to that, even if they are in plain view, they might not be perceived as a negative thing right away. Live Simple To Create Balance In Your Life

October 23rd, 2008 by Jack Rugile - 20 Comments - Posted in Personal Growth, Simple Living

This post is part of the Life Balance Group Writing Project that is being hosted by Stacey at Create a Balance.

Balance is an essential component of happiness. When all aspects of your life are in harmony, it puts your mind, body, and spirit on an equal level. The definition of balance will be completely different from person to person. It is up to you to find the balance that is right for you. However, living simple will always help you create balance in your life.

Many of us have lives that are like a person attempting to walk a tight rope for the first time. We buckle. We wobble. We try to stay on by flailing our arms. But eventually, no matter how hard we try, we fall off the edge.

Hidden Addictions Part 1 – What Is A Hidden Addiction?

Hidden AddictionsThis post is part 1 of the “Hidden Addiction” series. Be sure to read Hidden Addictions Part 2 – Identify Your Hidden Addictions.

Addictions. Big bad habits. Small bad habits. Vices. Everyone has them! The big ones can have a horrible effect on your life. Things like gambling, alcohol, drugs, porn, and illegal activity can all lead you down a bad road. Ridding your life of these addictions should be high on your priority list.

However, there is another kind of addiction that is much more common and can be just as dangerous. I call them “hidden addictions“. These are the small bad habits that you never seem to notice. They silently invade your life and before you know it, you have an entire colony of hidden addictions infesting your life! They are difficult to spot and even more difficult to quit. Having one or two hidden addictions in your life might be ok, but it becomes a real problem when there are a lot of them.

11 Signs That You Should Quit Your Job

October 9th, 2008 by Jack Rugile - 15 Comments - Posted in Miscellaneous, Personal Growth

SignsI gave my two week notice today at my job. I could not be happier! It is an incredible burden lifted off of me. Before, there was no end in sight. But now, there is a set day where I know that I will never ever have to come back to my job, ever again… ever. EVER!

Hopefully all of you don’t hate your job as much as I hated mine. I would absolutely dread going to work and just thinking about it would ruin my days off. When my shift would end, I would feel this enormous sense of freedom and would race home to get away from my job.

Is your job working out for you? Do you feel some of the same feelings I am feeling? If you love your job, good for you! Hold on to it, cherish it, and excel at it. If not, go through this list and see if any of the items match up to your current situation. No, not all of these reasons alone are enough to quit your job, but a combination of them can be reason enough to leave. It will be up to you to decide which ones you can live with and which ones you can’t. I know that there is no perfect job out there and that they all can be hard at times. I hope this is a valuable resource! Read the full post…

Forget Recognition, Always Do Your Best

October 1st, 2008 by Jack Rugile - 6 Comments - Posted in Inspiration, Personal Growth

No RecognitionEveryone enjoys receiving recognition or some sort of credit for doing a high quality job. It is so easy to get lazy and neglect the quality of some tasks, or not even do them at all when recognition is not given. We need to remember that it is important to go that extra mile, even when there is no one waiting at the finish line to congratulate us or pat us on the back.

I have always seen myself as two different people. No, I don’t have multiple personality disorder… “yes you do”… no I don’t! Shh. Anyway, one person is living out my life, making all the decisions and thinking all of the thoughts. The other person is hidden on the inside, deep inside, judging and watching my actions.

In that sense, I never feel alone. I never feel like I can get away with anything bad, immoral, cheap, or disrespectful. Not that I would want to, I am just saying that I can’t. That inner part of me is always watching my every move, making sure I am doing the best I can and guiding me to do the right thing. That other person sees what you do and appreciates it. That other person will always give you recognition.

Why You Should Always Ask Why

September 24th, 2008 by Jack Rugile - 8 Comments - Posted in Personal Growth

Ask WhyFinding the answer to who, what, where, when and how are all very important steps toward reaching your goals… but without why, all the others have no meaning. The first five are the means, but the last one is the end. What purpose do the means have if there is no end?

That is why you should always ask why. It provides the footing and framework for all your goals, intentions, reasons, and purpose in life.

The Infinite “Why?” Of A Child
