How To Make A Cheap Halloween Decoration
Ok guys. This one is cheap. This one is easy. This one is quick. This one is a tad bit… white trash, but that is alright!
My girlfriend and I were raking up leaves and other fallen debris in our yard at our new place this morning. She had the great idea of buying the pumpkin design plastic trash bags to get prepared for our Halloween decorations. This screamed frugality, so I had to share it with you guys. Three of the pumpkin bags cost only $1.99 at Target! Can’t go wrong there! Anyway, I promised in the title that I would tell you “how to” make a cheap Halloween decoration. Let me break it down for you…
- Rake the leaves in your yard.
- Buy the pumpkin design plastic trash bags.
- Put the raked leaves into the bags.
- Tie the top of the bags.
- Place them where ever you want on your property as a decoration.
- Slap Jack Rugile from Simple Sapien in the face for even giving you these numbered directions.
Haha, hope you guys have fun with this one.
I would love to hear what other frugal ideas you guys have for this coming Halloween holiday. What things do you do to make it more fun and exciting while saving money in the process?

Hi Jack: This is hilarious! I have a few Halloween decorations that I put out every year–including a pumpkin which I hang on the front door which laughs whenever someone walks by, and two trembling toads in a cauldron that sing a song when you press one of the toad’s hands (“I wonder what will happen when the witch comes back, something bad could happen when the witch comes back . . . )
@ Spiritlight – I try to have a sense of humor at al times, hehe
@ Marelisa – Lol, I would love to see those decorations. That would be an interesting career, wouldn’t it? Just making funny Halloween decorations all year.

We had some creative decorations growing up: twist tie spiders on cotton stuffing spider webs (my mom sewed so we always had cotton stuffing lying around), white grocery bag ghosts (you turn them inside out stuff a corner with a small ball of newspaper, tie off under the paper, trim the excess bag and draw on magic marker eyes)… we lived in a small town where everyone knew everyone, so we even used to make out own treats to give out (the year we did popcorn balls I had more friends than I knew what to do with!)
