November 28th, 2008 by Jack Rugile - 3 Comments - Posted in Frugality

Black FridayToday is the Black Friday of 2008. It is the day that kicks off the holiday shopping season and the point where businesses start turning a profit (in theory… hence “black” Friday, not “red Friday”). Great deals, incredible savings, buy one get eight free, sounds perfect!

But before you head out at 5:00am to get to the front of the line at your favorite store to snag some great deals on things you don’t need, let me share a secret with you. This one tip with allow you to save even more money on Black Friday.

This method is guaranteed to provide you with the most savings possible compared to any other method used on Black Friday. Forget waking up early. Forget tackling fellow customers to get the last incredible deal. Forget planning weeks in advance your entire strategy for the day.

This method leaves all the others in the dust, and I am going to give it you for free. If you want to save an incredible amount of money on Black Friday, here’s how:

Don’t go shopping!

What is better than spending money on incredible savings all day? Not spending any money at all!

Never forget that buying an item on sale, no matter how cheap, is not necessarily saving you money. If you didn’t need that item in the first place, and you’re just buying because it is on sale, then you have just been had.

Do yourself a favor on this fine Black Friday of 2008: Don’t get had.

The only money I spent on Black Friday was $9.99 plus tip on a pizza burger, fries, a Dr. Pepper, and a slice of pumpkin pie at my best friends’ mom’s restaurant, Andy’s Roadhouse.

I did spend about $2 at Taco Bell later that night, but that was past midnight so technically…

Even though I spent money on Black Friday, I think that I did pretty good. What do you think?

AndySan, you did pretty good! I think the items you bought weren’t purchased because it was Black Friday, but because you were simply hungry, so that is ok :) Even though it went against my challenge that I proposed the day after Black Friday, hehe.

Every one is trying to rob us of our money, and it is working. We must fight!

    Thanks Jack!

I felt good spending that money because I knew that I was helping to support my friend’s family. Since it’s wintertime and they’re in a terrible location (unless it’s summertime, then it’s great), business has been really bad for them.

Sure that $9.99 isn’t $999,999 but every little bit helps!
